Here today we have 61 photos taken by Staff Sergeant Edward Weden of the 409th Bomb Squad, part of the 93rd Bomb Group during the course of World War II taking place during Operation Tidal Wave- a series of Air Bombing Attacks Libya and Romania to deny Oil to the Axis Powers during the "Oil Campaign", which took place during 1943. This operation is also known as "Black Sunday", as it was the costliest allied air raid of the entire war- losing 53 aircraft and atleast 660 crewmen. Photos taken by Eddie Weden contribute to this fact, with a few photos depicting large explosions and trench lines, while also including several locations containing captured Nazi Planes, as well as close ups of several members of the 409th Bomb Squad. The Album itself is signed by Eddie Weden, as well as the 93rd Bomb Group and 409th Bomb Squad- and indeed, if one checks the records of the members of the 409th Bomb Squad one will find an Edward Weden who took part in Operation Title Wave, the raid on Ploesti on 8/1/1943 in the B-24 Liberator as the planes Radio Operator.
